Is My Device Compatbile?

This guide provides information about the compatibility of popular electronic devices and requirements needed to connect to the wired and wireless networks in the residence halls.

Due to the vast amount of devices available on the market today, we are unable to validate each and every device.

If you do not see your device in the tables below, you should still be able to connect as long as your device meets our minimum specifications and general supportability guidelines.

Minimum Specifications

Technical specifications are typically listed on the product packaging, in the device user manual or on the product website.

If you are unsure if your device supports these requirements, please contact your device manufacturer.

To connect to the wireless network, your device must support:

  • WPA2 (Enterprise or Personal)
  • 802.11ac (5 Ghz) or 802.11n (5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz)
  • PEAP/MSCHAPv2 (username+password)
  • DHCP configuration
  • 802.1X authentication
  • Visible MAC address in system settings or on external label

To connect to our wired network, your device must support:

  • 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet) or 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) with Autonegotiation enabled
  • DHCP configuration
  • 802.1X authentication
  • Visible MAC address in system settings or on external label

General Supportability Guidelines

Technology that requires peer-to-peer communications within the same local network OR inbound communications initiated from outside the ResNet network will not work and are thus not supported.

Examples include NAS, screen/audio casting, LAN party games, smart bulbs, smart speakers, web servers, etc.

Our network is constantly evolving. If you device is no longer supported by the manufacturer (end-of-life), then we cannot guarantee compatibility with our network.

At this time, we are also unable to support custom or developmental (e.g. beta) firmware and operating systems.
