The purpose of the eLearning Team is to enhance employee skill capability and effectiveness through the design, maintenance and administration of online training and learning opportunities for the Office of Student Life.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Design and maintain consistent, centralized training materials and templates.
  • Provide necessary tools and outlines to department-specific training professionals and stakeholders to facilitate developed learning.
  • Maintain inventory of Student Life learning support materials.
  • Offer guidance on current Learning Management System (BuckeyeLearn) offerings and initiatives.

  • Register for Training – Contains information for learners on how to register for different types of training (online videos, curriculums, instructor-led training) in BuckeyeLearn.
  • Take and Complete Training – Contains information for learners on how to take and complete BuckeyeLearn training.
  • Using Learner Home to Find Training – Contains information for learners on how to find, register for, and take training using the Learner Homepage in BuckeyeLearn.
  • BuckeyeLearn Access for New Employees – Contains information for managers about new employee access in BuckeyeLearn and when training can be assigned to them.

BuckeyeLearn Compliance Education Information

  • Collin’s Law: Anti-Hazing Education (25 minutes) - Outlines the policies and definitions that guide the university's anti-hazing work, and offers tips on bystander intervention, prevention strategies, and reporting options.
  • Institutional Data Policy (25 minutes) - Covers the types of institutional data users might encounter in their job role and how to safeguard it. 
  • Payment Card Compliance (PCI) (35 minutes) - Intended for users who process or handle payment cards on behalf of the university or the medical center.
  • Digital Accessibility Policy (40 minutes) - Stresses the importance of equal access to digital information and services for all university audiences, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Reporting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (8 minutes) - All current Ohio State employees must complete training on Ohio's fraud-reporting system to comply with Section 117.103 in Ohio Revised Code.
  • STEP UP Against Sexual Misconduct (40 minutes) - This sexual misconduct prevention course replaces "Report = Support!" and "U Got This!" Learn about safe and positive options for bystander intervention, on-and off-campus resources, victim support options, and disciplinary procedures.

E-Learning Highlight 

December 22, 2025 - "How the Algorithm Hijacked Monkey's Brain (Why Monkey Can't Learn Online)" - This humorous, 15-minute YouTube video teaches you how to break the illusion of progress by replacing passive watching with active learning. You can't escape the algorithm, but you can train it by being intentional with what you watch, and focusing on acquiring skills instead of collecting information.
