What is Philo Edu?

Philo Edu is an Internet TV streaming service available to residents of the Columbus Residence Halls, Mansfield Molyet Village Apartments, and Newark Residence Hall/McConnell Hall.

Philo Edu replaces traditional cable TV service and allows you to view, pause, and record live TV programming from a variety of devices anytime, anywhere while on campus and connected to a university network.

Please note that due to streaming and content licensing restrictions, the service is not accessible off campus or from cellular networks and not all programs can be recorded.

What is the channel lineup for Philo Edu?

The most recent channel lineup is available at https://ocio.osu.edu/IPTV_PhiloEdu. The channel lineup is subject to change without prior notice.

How many active streams can I watch at once?

Philo Edu allows one active stream at a time per user.

Can I record television programs?

Yes. Philo Edu offers a DVR feature with a minimum of 20 hours of storage space. Additional information is available on the Philo Edu Support Site.

Can I watch Philo Edu on my TV set?

Yes. We recommend using a supported Roku player connected to your TV or a Roku TV. Please ensure your Roku has an onboard Ethernet port, as Roku is not supported on the wireless network currently.

You can also use your TV as a second monitor connected to your computer using a HDMI, VGA or DVI cable. 

Apple TV, AirPlay, and Chromecast are not supported at this time.

How do I watch Philo Edu?

You will need:

• your OSU login credentials
• a compatible device
• a university network connection (Philo Edu is not available off campus or from cellular networks)

The following instructions assume you have connected your device to our wired or wireless network in the residence halls:

Watch on your Computer

1. Go to https://watch.philo.com from a supported browser.
2. Click on Log In and enter your OSU username and password.
3. Start watching and recording live TV!

Watch on an iPhone or iPad

1. Download the Philo Edu app from the Apple App Store
2. Log in using your OSU username and password
3. Start watching and recording live TV!

Watch on an Android Device

1. Download the Philo Edu app from the Google Play Store
2. Enter your OSU username and password
3. Start watching and recording live TV!

Watch on a TV with a Roku Player

1. Connect your Roku player to your TV via HDMI and plug it into the network and power outlets
2. Power on your TV to finish setting up your Roku
3. Add the Philo Edu channel and register your Roku with Philo Edu 
4. Select the Philo Edu channel to start watching and recording live TV!

Watch on a Roku TV

1. Plug your Roku TV into the network and power outlets
2. Power on your TV to finish setting up your Roku TV
3. Add the Philo Edu channel and register your Roku with Philo Edu
4. Select the Philo Edu channel to start watching and recording live TV!
